Fort Mill native Anna Kimbrell, now a freshman catcher on the Samford University softball team, hit her first college home run yesterday.
Kimbrell's homer came in an 11-3 win over Murray State.
A star athlete for Fort Mill and Nation Ford high schools, Kimbrell made South Carolina history when she became the first girl to play in a boys varsity baseball game. Kimbrell also played for an all-female baseball team that represented the U.S. in a tournament in Japan that drew teams from around the world.
"We thought Anna would redshirt all season and have a year to transition to softball, but due to injuries, she's the starting freshman catcher!," Anna's mom, Sandy Kimbrell, said.
