Words of Faith - June 24, 2009

In "Amazed, Part I,” I shared with you the amazing truth that God loves you, and that as we allow ourselves to accept this truth life becomes so much richer and carries a greater sense of purpose. Often I hear people say, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.” This strikes me as quite a negative attitude to life. I would rather believe that "If it seems too good to be true...perhaps it’s God!"

You see, the Bible says, "with God, all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26), and then God goes on to prove that there is nothing that is too complex or too difficult for Him to accomplish. As I consider who God is and all that He does, I am left totally amazed. The most incredible act of love that God has ever shown to mankind was to send His Son Jesus to Earth to be born, live, die and be resurrected for us.

As I look at Jesus, the Son of God, I am also amazed at the way He lived His life. I am amazed that Jesus would be so humble even though He knew that He was God’s son.

We live in an environment where pride rules. We live in a world where everyone wants to talk about themselves, and where many people will exalt themselves at the expense of others. We live in a society where people will think nothing of taking a friend to court for just a few dollars, and where neighbors will fight and fall out over the smallest of personal preferences. And yet Jesus lived a life of putting others first and encourages us to do the same. Jesus was God’s Son, and yet He became a servant to every person He met.

Isn’t it amazing that the most powerful, significant and well-known individual that has ever walked the Earth chose to serve rather than to have others serve Him? Today, our culture tries to destroy the memory of this amazing Jesus. Government ruled that Jesus cannot be taught in schools, or have any recognition in town halls. Many devalue the name of Jesus by turning it into a common curse word. However, in my opinion, all of these actions are temporary because the Bible says very clearly that God has highly exalted the name of Jesus and He has given Him the name which is above all others and there will be a time when every person will declare that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Let’s start that process now by talking about our amazing Jesus to all those we meet. Jesus truly is more amazing than any man or woman alive and only He is the Savior of the world.

Amazing! Dr. Matt Woodhouse is a lead pastor at Antioch International Church in Fort Mill. Visit www.LifeAtAntioch.org.
