YEC: Snakes caused power outage
A power outage that affected thousands of residents June 10 was caused by snakes, a utility discovered.
Joyce Baker, a a spokeswoman for York Electric Cooperative, said snakes going after birds nests “tripped a 100 KV breaker at Duke’s Forest Lakes station.”
The outage, which began after 8 p.m., lasted about 90 minutes. Several communities, including Foxwood, Springfield and some in the vicinity of Regent Park, were without power. In all, approximately 3,000 homes were affected, Baker said.
