A group of Hornets moved to another hive last week as the Charlotte NBA team held a week-long camp for kids at Fort Mill High.
Nearly 120 kids packed into Fort Mill High last week as part of the Hornets Hoop Camp, which was led by camp director Chad Hunt.
“This has been a great week,” Hunt said. “The kids have had great attitudes and have been working hard.”
The camp had 15 counselors with about a 10-to-1 ratio of kids to counselors. Each counselor is either a former or current college player or high school coach. The camp was for kids ages 7 to 16.

The camp included skill stations, instructional lectures and breakdown drills.
“We feel like we really teach the kids the game,” Hunt said. “We just don’t roll the ball out there.”
Hunt played college basketball at Lake Erie College in Ohio, professionally overseas and in the ABA with the Cleveland Rockers.
The camp also featured guest appearances by former Charlotte Bobcats player Matt Carroll and current Hornets’ center Cody Zeller.
The camp at Fort Mill High was one of two sold out camps the Hornets have held this summer. There are still eight more to be held around the Charlotte area, Hunt said.
“Fort Mill High has been phenomenal for us as far as being a host,” Hunt added.
