Lady Falcons, Hammond cruise heading down the stretch

With three more wins under its belt, the Nation Ford Lady Falcons are now in cruise control.

In two of those wins, Nation Ford had back-to-back shutouts against Northwestern and South Pointe. In both of those games, junior pitcher Heather Hammond threw two, two-hit games.

Against South Pointe, the Lady Falcons won 11-0 as they gathered 15 hits and were led by several players. Freshmen Brittany Baker, junior Brittany Jones, sophomore Jessica Bonham and Hammond, all went 2-3. Stevens and Hammond both hit doubles, and Bonham smacked a triple.

Nation Ford opened the game with a run in the bottom of the first, but blew it open in the bottom of the fourth, scoring 10 runs.

Against Northwestern, the Lady Falcons had a similar inning, scoring nine runs in the second inning before adding a final run in the fourth.

Bonham went 2-2 with a double and two runs scored and freshman Somer Cronley went 2-2 with with three RBIs.

Jones also went 1-2 with two RBIs and Stevens went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Earlier in the week, Nation Ford did have its hands full with Lancaster in a game they won 2-1.

Nation Ford scored a run in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Lancaster came back and tied it up 1-1 in the sixth as the Lady Falcons uncharacteristically made two errors.

Hammond only gave up four hits, but the Lady Falcons struggled at the plate getting just three hits, one of those a triple by Jones.

Nation Ford came back in the bottom of the seventh to score the game-winning run.
