Fort Mill High senior Max Simons repeated Saturday night as the 189-pound 4A S.C. state champion after beating Fort Dorchester’s Keyson Flores 7-5.
Simons ran his overall record to 43-1 on the season and 164-29 to finish his prep career at Fort Mill High, making him the school’s all-time winningest wrestler. He is also just the third Fort Mill wrestler to win consecutive state titles (Andy King and James Brotmarkle).
At the 1A level, Indian Land senior Trevor Jones also won a state title by pinning Loris High School’s LaQuandian Bromell in the third period after rallying back from down 5-1 earlier in the match.
Indian Land had two other wresters finish in third place in junior Mark Gunter (160) and senior Dakota Landrie (189).
