Storms clear for good night in the weekly fishing tournament on Lake Wylie.
“The rain and wind came through as we were signing up, but by the start of the tournament, the skies had cleared and the air temperature became more tolerable,” said Erwin Gaston, co-organizer of the Thursday Night Tournament Trail. “It turned out to be a very pleasant night to be out on the water, but the fishing continues to be very tough.”
Out of 24 teams, only nine teams weighted in fish.
Robin Cairco and Mike Bushue brought five largemouth bass to the scale that weighed 13.75 pounds. They had the big fish of the night at 5.55 pounds.

Second place went to Larry Fleeman and Todd Sosebee with a five fish limit of 11.83 pounds.
“We have one more tournament before the anticipated two-night championship, and we all are hoping the rain and forecast for cooler temperatures will improve the fishing,” Gaston said.
The weekly tournament runs through Aug. 25, with launch and weigh-ins at Buster Boyd Access Area. The championship is Sept. 2-3.
Trail sponsors are Academy Sports, Kangaroo Express, Sparks Grading and Koyote Fishing Tackle.
