Fort Mill girls’ tennis move onto second round of SC playoffs

The Fort Mill High girls tennis team had little trouble in the first round of the 5A state playoffs, beating Dorman 5-1.

The Jackets dropped just two sets in the match and will take on TL Hanna in Anderson this week in the second round.

All five matches Fort Mill won were in straight sets as No. 1 singles Elizabeth Fitzgerald led the Jackets, winning 6-2, 6-1. No. 2 singles Shreya Katti won her match 6-1, 6-2 and No. 3 singles Rachel Brooks won her march 6-3, 6-0 also in straight sets.

The only speed bump Fort Mill hit was at No. 4 singles where Wallace Cortazar fell in a third set tiebreaker. Cortazar won the opening set 6-4, lost the second 6-7 and then the tiebreaker 8-10.

At No. 5 singles, Ellie Prain won in a close match 6-3, 6-2 and the only doubles match contested was No. 2 double which saw Jamie Petrella and Claire Neal win 6-4, 6-0.
