The Fort Mill High School Girls Lacrosse team won its season opener 10-7 over Ridge View High School Wednesday.
This is the first season Fort Mill is competing in varsity lacrosse. Previously, local high school students competed on the club level. Students from Fort Mill and Nation Ford high schools are competing on the same team this year.
Mady Katz led the scoring for Fort Mill with four goals, Dori Wilson scored two and Victoria Richardson, Katie Cheney, Kirsten Terry and Marina Weber all added a goal. Cheney and Wilson also had two assists each and Caressa Turner, Richardson and Terry each added one a piece.
Ground ball recovery was led by Farrah Bui with six, followed by Richardson with five, Terry and Emily Sirico four each and Wilson with three. Goalie Rosalie Hawkins made seven saves.
The next game is 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Fort Mill High's Bob Jones Stadium.
