Fort Mill boys run into trouble at home meet

The Fort Mill boys’ cross-country team suffered a home loss to Rock Hill on the Anne Springs Close Greenway while the Jackets’ girls’ squad picked up a win.

Despite Fort Mill senior Jeremy Ricks’ winning time of 17:54, the Jackets fell 25-30 to the Bearcats. Rock Hill’s top five runners came in ahead of the other four Fort Mill runners giving the Bearcats the win.

Fort Mill’s second runner, sophomore Zach Brugh, came in fourth at 18:43 and the Jackets’ third runner, junior Cameron Smith, came in seventh at 19:42. Eighth place runner, senior Mitchell Scholten, was right behind Smith for Fort Mill coming in at 19:46.

The Jackets’ fifth place runner, senior Michael Field, came in 10th overall in 19:58 to round out the scoring for Fort Mill.

The Lady Jackets won 24-33 with all five runners finishing in the top eight. Senior Melissa Smith led the way with a second place finish at 22:26, behind the winning time of Lanie Jo Knight at 21:07 for Rock Hill.

Eighth-grader Helen Scholten was right behind her at 23:13 in third place. After a fourth place finish by Rock Hill, Fort Mill sophomore Ania Rzepka came in fifth overall in 23:17 and sophomore Megan Allen was right on her heels at 23:32 in sixth place.

Sophomore Mia Davis finished the scoring for Fort Mill at 24:35 with an eighth place finish.

Fort Mill will travel to Clover for a dual meet this week before competing in the Wendy’s Invitational Saturday.
