The Fort Mill Lady Jackets golf team will tee it up this week at Smithfield Country Club in Easley in an effort to get to the state championship tournament after winning the Region III title.
Fort Mill shot a 407 as a team at Fort Mill Golf Club last week to win the tournament on its home course sending them to the Upper State tournament in Easley this week.
The top eight from the Upper State tournament will join the top eight from the Lower State tournament for the State tournament Oct. 27-28 at the Wescott Plantation in Summerville.
Led by Catherine Blum’s score of 93 in the 18-hole tournament, Fort Mill was able to easily best second place Gaffney by 21 strokes.

“Our kids were very comfortable,” said Lady Jackets head coach Bryan Zulka. “The wet conditions made the course play longer and they didn’t get frustrated.”
Behind Blum was Randi Smith’s 101 and Devin Sallenger’s 104 and Ashley Babinchak’s 109 to round out the scoring for Fort Mill.
The top four in the region tournament moved on to the Upper State tournament. Nation Ford just missed the cut, finishing fifth with a team score of 444, 14 strokes off the fourth place Northwestern, who shot a 430 as a team.
Last year, Nation Ford finished last, so head coach Jaybe Shackleford said his team is heading in the right direction.
“We improved,” Shackleford said. “Francesca (Ferrell) shot a personal best (on 18 holes). We have just got to get more consistency in our scores.”
Nation Ford was led by Cameron Levosky’s 104 and Shannon Maguire’s 106 to pace the Lady Falcons. Ferrell shot a 113 and Logan James finished with a 121 for Nation Ford.
Second through fourth spots were just three shots behind each other. York grabbed the third spot with a 429 behind Gaffney.
