Seventh-graders at Fort Mill Middle win East title

The Fort Mill Middle School seventh-grade volleyball team defeated Springfield at home Oct. 16 to clinch the York County Middle School East division title.

The win gave Fort Mill a 9-1 regular-season record.

In addition to regular season matches, the junior Jackets played in the Bearcat Invitational Tournament hosted by Rock Hill High School on Oct. 4, and after making it to the Gold playoff bracket with just one loss they defeated Saluda Trail and Dutchman Creek to win the seventh-grade division title and team tournament trophy.

Grace Scott has been a standout as the solo setter on the team. Sophie Fischer dominated net play, and Emily Lammers has been a consistent libero. Serves and swings for the team also came from Lizzie Gale, Cali Tesimale, Olivia Snyder, Jada Queenan and Sylvia Swords.

Performing consistent passing were Carolina Sunderlage, Madelyne LeVassiur, Jenna Platt and Rhianna Graham.

Head coach Jennifer Wilkes was assisted by teacher Alison Wilson and Nation Ford High School student Abi Warmington. Keeley Wong is the team’s student manager and assistant.

The Jackets faced Dutchman Creek Middle, undefeated in the West division, in Rock Hill on Oct. 20 for the cross-over divisional finale game.
