A Chester man who court records show was recently served with an eviction notice is behind bars, accused of robbing a man at gunpoint and getting away with an unknown amount of cash on Sunday, police say.
Police were sent to the Corner Mart convenience store at 895 J.A. Cochran Bypass in reference to a robbery, according to a Chester Police Department news release. When they arrived, they met with a victim who told them the store had been robbed at gunpoint.
The man told police a suspect waring a dark-colored hooded jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes walked in to the store, held him at gunpoint and got away with an undisclosed amount of money, police say. The victim was able to describe the suspect’s car and tell police in which direction he fled. Later, police noticed a car matching that description turning left on J.A. Cochran Bypass toward the Chester State Park.
Police stopped the car. The driver, Rodney Dye, 31, matched the description the victim gave, the release states. He was arrested and charged with armed robbery. He is held at the Chester County Detention Center without bond. Court records show that his landlord recently filed eviction papers against him in civil court.
