Police find Rock Hill man accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend hiding in closet

A Rock Hill man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend hid from police during an apartment search.

The 30-year-old victim brought Ontavious Caldwell, 34, to the Rock Hill Law center to pay a ticket on Oct. 16. While driving back to her Glen Arden Drive residence, Caldwell, the victim’s ex-boyfriend, asked her if she was dating anyone, according to a police report.

When she didn’t answer, he became angry, the report states. He allegedly punched the victim in the mouth and ran out of the victim’s vehicle on Midvale Avenue, the report states. The woman went to the Rock Hill Police department to report the incident and emergency medical officials were brought out to treat her bleeding mouth, the report states.

On Wednesday evening, police searched an apartment on Glen Arden Drive and found Caldwell hiding in the closet, the report states. He was arrested and charged with assault and battery, third degree. He is held at the Rock Hill jail on a $1,500 bond.
