A Rock Hill man’s decision to let someone stay at his house because she was hiding from the police may have resulted in the theft of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.
The 29-year-old man took a 20-year-old woman out for the evening Sunday. Afterward, she told him she couldn’t go home because “police (were) at her house,” according to the incident report. Instead, she stayed at his mother’s Riverglenn Court home overnight.
When the man and his mother headed out for work Monday morning, they left the young woman at the home alone. The mother later noticed she was missing two rubies, two gold rings with diamonds, and several baguettes from her jewelry stand. The items had an estimated value of $15, 601. Also reported missing was a bottle of methadone valued at $500.
The officer called to the home noted that it was “extremely cluttered” and both residents noted that items are regularly misplaced.
