A 2-year-old Rock Hill boy was nearly struck by several vehicles while running down the middle of Cherry Road Saturday night, according to a Rock Hill police report.
Police later charged the boy’s father, Jimmy Smarr Sr., 50, of Rock Hill with unlawful conduct toward a child, according to the report. Smarr, who was supposed to be caring for the child, could not explain why his son was running in the road. Smarr was in “an obvious drunken state,” according to the report.
A driver saw the boy running in the 100 block of South Cherry Road about 8:20 p.m. and stopped in the median, according to the report. The driver later flagged down two Rock Hill police officers.
A woman told police at the scene that she had taken two other children, the brother and sister of the 2-year-old, to a nearby gas station to purchase cigarettes. The 2-year-old was left with Smarr.
