SLED investigates York, Chester police officers after child abuse allegation

Two area police officers are on leave while the State Law Enforcement Division investigates child abuse allegations against them.

The Herald’s news partner, WSOC-TV, reports the parents of a 3-month-old boy are police officers in the cities of York and Chester.

According to a search warrant, the baby’s parents took him to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill on Sunday with brain and neck injuries. He was having seizure-like symptoms.

The child was flown to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, where he is listed in critical condition, the warrant states.

The child’s mother is part of the Chester police force, according to WSOC-TV. She’s been on leave since Friday. The father is with York police and was placed on leave Wednesday.

Neither department would comment on the investigation.

The search warrant also says the parents didn’t give an explanation for the baby’s injuries.

A SLED spokesman said Rock Hill police referred the case to them.

No charges have been filed.
