Rock Hill man sent over $1.5K for a Corgi pup; then he realized it was a scam

A Rock Hill man wired $1,570 to a Walmart in Ohio to buy a Corgi puppy he found online – and he tried to send even more, according to a Rock Hill police report.

When the man wired a second payment for $1,350, Walmart put the wired money on hold and told him he may be getting scammed, the report says.

The man told police he wanted to buy a Corgi puppy, and that he found one named Lexi for sale online, the report says.

He said he agreed to pay $800 for the puppy, including air transportation, and wired the money to an Ohio Walmart, the report says.

He later sent an additional $770 to cover air travel costs, he told police.

He said the seller told him to send another $1,350 to cover insurance issues, which he tried to do, the report says, but Walmart stepped in.

The man told Rock Hill police he went back to the website where he found the puppy, and saw the puppy he wanted, still listed as for sale, the report says.

A 9-week-old Corgi puppy Lexi is still listed as available online as of noon Monday.

The photos shown on the website as Lexi were taken in March 2013, according to photo-sharing website Flickr.
