Police are investigating a homicide off High Point Circle near Lancaster, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

At 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, a Lancaster deputy spoke with a resident regarding the incident. A suspect is in custody on unrelated charges, police say.

The Lancaster County Coroner’s office listed the address as 1838 High Point Circle.

“The complainant told deputies she was informed by another person that a homicide had occurred at a residence on High Point Circle in Lancaster on an unknown date several weeks ago,” a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office report states.

Police searched the residence and believe the victim’s body was disposed of at the High Point Circle home, the report states. The remains were confirmed as human. The case is being investigated as a homicide.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, according to the coroner’s office.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents, a K-9 unit from Foothills Search and Rescue and a forensic anthropologist from the Richland County Coroner’s Office also responded, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The information reported to us has been corroborated so far during our search of this property,” said Sheriff Barry Faile in a prepared statement.

“A suspect is in custody on unrelated charges, and we do not believe the public is in danger. I appreciate the hard work all personnel have done today and will continue to do into the evening. We will release more information as we can.”
