Four subjects in custody, one at large in ‘juvenile crime spree,’ officials say

City of York Police officers have detained four suspects involved in what police describe as a “juvenile crime spree.”

The suspects, who are not identified because they are juveniles, were involved in a car theft and attempted carjacking Tuesday, officials said.

At 7:33 p.m., York Police officers responded to a call at Dollar General on Liberty Street. According to police reports, a male with a gun was attempting to take a vehicle.

A victim was in the car with three children, according to a police report.

The victim told police officers that three males surrounded her car and one approached with a gun, attempting to gain entry. There were five subjects at the scene -- two waited in a small white sedan, according to the police report.

The victim said the suspect with the gun failed to open the door, then fled on foot.

Two of the males fled on foot and three left in the white sedan, according to the police report.

While officers spoke with the victim, they were alerted that three juveniles males were hiding behind a fence at nearby Huddle House on E. Liberty Street. The police detained all three, police records show. A firearm was located at the scene.

Later, police officers responded to reports of a suspicious car behind Harold C. Johnson Elementary School, according to a police report. The car matched the description of the vehicle involved in the attempted carjacking.

The vehicle was discovered to have been stolen, records show.

The York Police Department K-9 unit was called and a fourth suspect was located. The fifth suspect as not been found.
