A Rock Hill middle school teacher is in jail facing charges.

Darryl Todd Taylor, 51, was booked into the York County Detention Center on Friday at the request of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. He was still being held on Monday.

A spokesman for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said Taylor is wanted on a Family Court bench warrant issued in the county on Sept. 1. Deputies plan to collect Taylor on Tuesday morning and bring him to Lexington, said Capt. Adam Myrick.

Taylor is listed as a social studies teacher on the Dutchman Creek Middle School website. Minutes from a Rock Hill school board meeting previously lists him as an assistant principal at Rock Hill High School.

Initially contacted about Taylor’s arrest, school district spokesman Mychal Frost said the district has “reason to believe this situation does not involve any district or school activity,” based on the fact the charges were filed in another county.

He wouldn’t say what actions the school may take in response to Taylor’s arrest, calling it a “personnel matter.” "We investigate all charges and follow district policy in handling the matter."
