Police say four men came to Tega Cay to break into cars – but they never got the chance.
Just past midnight Sunday morning, a traffic stop near Windward and Tega Cay drives turned up a stolen vehicle report out of Charlotte. Officers saw a vehicle speeding, then swerving. When officers stopped the vehicle, the four suspects allegedly opened their doors and ran out in opposite directions.
“All four subjects, from Charlotte, jumped and ran,” said Maj. Dave Nelson, public information officer for the Tega Cay Police Department. “The uniqueness of this incident is that all four ended up being caught.”
The responding officer reported the suspects left the vehicle while it was still moving, after a short pursuit. The officer reported finding drugs in the car. Soon, a K9 unit began searching the area as other officers set a perimeter.

The K9 unit went, according to the incident report, “through some back yards and over some fences” while tracking two of the suspects, including the alleged driver. The team located a man with ripped clothing and grass in his hair, who told officers he was leaving his aunt’s home. Officers took him to the residence, where none of the occupants said they knew the man.
Just past 6 a.m., another officer observed a man matching the description of a suspect walking out of the city. The officer went to question the man, and a foot chase ensued. Another K9 search led officers into nearby woods where two men were found hiding. Later, officers saw a man walking outside the city toward S.C. 160 West. Deputies with the York County Sheriff’s Office helped apprehend him.
“This is unique as typically we are not able to capture all subjects in this manner,” Nelson said. “Also, per statements, they were here for car break-ins but it appears they were caught before they could start.”
Arrested were Charlotte residents Xavid Alexis Rivera, 18; Jamal Malik Brown, 20; Jeremiah Jermaine Fincher, 19 and Travis Demon Moore, 18.
All four face charges of possession of marijuana and trespassing. Rivera also faces possession of a stolen vehicle. All four have prior convictions.
