York Electric Cooperative offers pair of contests for scholarships

High school students can compete in two York Electric Cooperative contests that could earn them money for college and a trip to Washington, D.C.

Washington Youth Tour

This contest is open to high school juniors. Two winners will join other S.C. students on a six-day tour of the nation's capital.

The annual outing typically includes visits to monuments, historical sites and museums and meetings with politicians, according to York Electric.

Contest winners can compete for a $2,500 college scholarship.

Deadline to apply is Feb. 14. Tour dates will be June 13 to 18.

Touchstone Energy Scholarship

Seniors compete for a $1,000 college scholarship. Contestants must have average or above average grades and submit an essay about "GreenPower."

The typed, double-spaced essay shouldn't be more than 1,000 words. Deadline to apply is May 15.

Students don't have to be York Electric customers to compete in either contest.
