Students at Indian Land Middle School spent much of Tuesday out of class, learning about leadership at the school’s “Inside the Leader’s Studio” event.
Among the speakers were former Duke University basketball stars Ricky Price and Christian Laettner, who were interviewed by Laettner’s niece, Leah, a student at Indian Land.
Laettner, who appeared through an online video chat, told the students about his thoughts on leadership.
“All parents are leaders, all coaches are leaders, all teachers are leaders,” Laettner said.

Both Price and Laettner talked about leaders who inspired them, such as longtime Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski.
“Every second of the day, his teachings are with me,” Price said.
Price played for Duke from 1994 to 1998, although he had some setbacks physically and academically. After college, he played overseas for a few seasons. Now, Price lives in Charlotte and runs a basketball academy.
Laettner attended Duke from 1988-1992, helping to lead his team to four consecutive Final Four appearances and two national championships. He played in the NBA for 13 seasons and won a gold medal in the 1992 Summer Olympics. He spends his time now as an entrepreneur and, like Price, running a basketball academy.
The interview with Price and Laettner were two in a day of programming that included leaders like state senators, fire chiefs and media representatives.
