Several area high school marching bands are moving on to the South Carolina Marching Band Championships after strong showings at the Upper State Championships last weekend. Their showings from the competition:
Fort Mill: 1st in 4A
Northwestern: 2nd in 4A
York Comprehensive: 3rd in 4A

South Pointe: 3rd in 3A, best showing in band’s history
Nation Ford High School, in the 4A division, won the state title in 2013 but is not competing in state competition this year.
Lewisville High School qualified to move on to the 1A Championships, and bands from Andrew Jackson and Indian Land high schools are moving on to the 2A Championships.
1A and 3A bands will compete for state honors on Saturday at Batesburg-Leesville High School near Columbia, while the 2A and 4A bands will compete Saturday at Spring Valley High School in Columbia.
The 5A division, which includes Rock Hill and Clover high schools, does not have a qualifying Upper State Championship, because of the size of the division. The 5A bands will compete for state honors Nov. 1 at Irmo High School.
