Rock Hill students may be dismissed early on Aug. 21 for the first total solar eclipse in the U.S. since 1979.
The school district approved its 2017-18 calendar in March, with classes to begin on Aug. 17.
During Monday’s work session, the district proposed making Aug. 21, the day of the ecplise, a half-day instead of a full day.
Elementary students dismiss at 11 a.m. on half days, followed by middle school students at 11:30 a.m. and high school at 11:45 a.m.
On May 11, the Clover school district announced the same change to its calendar, citing safety concerns.
The Rock Hill school board is set to vote on the change at its May 22 business meeting.
