A former Chester County school board member has joined the Winthrop University Board of Trustees.
The South Carolina General Assembly elected Sandra Stroman, Winthrop Class of 1973 and 1976, to the Winthrop board for an at-large seat, according to the university. She replaces Sue Smith-Rex and will serve a six-year term.
Stroman holds a communications undergraduate degree and a special education graduate degree from Winthrop.
Stroman retired from the Chester County School District, where she taught special education and social studies for 25 years. She is National Board certified in special education and learning disabilities.
Stroman resigned from the Chester County school board to serve on Winthrop’s Board of Trustees, according to the university.
Stroman also served as chair of the Chester County Republican Party, during which she traveled as a state delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
Stroman’s husband, Jim Stroman, Winthrop Class of 1981, is a member of the S.C. Department of Education’s State School Board. The couple has three children and four grandchildren.
