Corrections officials in North Carolina say two officers were assaulted in separate incidents at the same facility.
The N.C. Department of Public Safety says in a statement that a correctional officer at Alexander Correctional Institution was hit by an inmate during a cell search on Friday. The department said the situation was brought under control quickly and the officer wasn't hurt.
Department spokesman Jerry Higgins says the second incident occurred 11 minutes later when another officer was doing a cell search and suffered a superficial wound. Higgins says the second officer received outside medical treatment and returned to work shortly thereafter. No other injuries were reported.
Higgins said additional cell searches were conducted through the day and the prison returned to normal operations by 2:30 p.m.
