Keeping guns away from kids
An 11-year-old girl was killed and two others, including another 11-year-old and a teenager, were injured in an early-morning shooting in a South Carolina home, the Anderson County Coroner’s Office said.
Police found three people with gunshot wounds after responding to a home around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, reports WSPA. There, police found three people with gunshot wounds.
Ja’Naiya Scott and two other girls, an 11-year-old and an 18-year-old, were inside the home when they were shot by a suspect standing outside, according to WYFF.
The coroner said Ja’Naiya was pronounced dead when the ambulance arrived at an area hospital, per WHNS.
The other girls were also rushed to the hospital, according to the coroner, who said they are in critical condition, WSPA reported.
Ja’Naiya’s death has been ruled a homicide, and the coroner has scheduled an autopsy for Tuesday, according to WYFF.
No arrests have been reported by law enforcement, and information about a suspect was not available. But police don’t believe there is an immediate threat to the community, WSPA reported.
“We feel sure that whoever did this was shooting at this house on purpose, we just don’t know the why,” Anderson Police Capt. Mike Aikens said, according to the Independent Mail. “We would just urge anyone who knows anything about this to be forthcoming, because this child hasn’t had the chance to live a life and now she’s gone.”
