Visitors to Riverbanks Zoo can help fight hunger this summer as the zoo launches its annual Toucan Tuesdays fundraiser Tuesday.
Through Aug. 18, zoo guests can buy one general park admission and get one free each Tuesday with a donation of two cans for Harvest Hope Food Bank. Donors also will receive special wristbands entitling them to discounts on selected concessions.
Donation bins will be at both the Zoo and Garden entrances.
Last year’s campaign generated more than 6,300 pounds of food – enough to provide 4,850 meals for families in the Midlands. During the past seven years, Toucan Tuesdays donations have topped 23,500 pounds, or the equivalent of 18,000 meals.
