York County bands flourish

York County's winning band tradition marches on. County bands led the way at the state 4-A band competition last week.

Local schools earned the top four awards, with Clover High School winning the state championship for the first time in 25 years. York Comprehensive High School came in second; Fort Mill High School, third; and Northwestern High School, fourth.

Local schools also won awards in other divisions, with Nation Ford High School, which just opened this year, placing second in the 2-A competition, and Lewisville High School taking second in 1-A competition.

Congratulations to all, and good luck to the Rock Hill High School band, which will travel to S.C. State University in Orangeburg on Saturday to compete in the 5A state championship.
