In a Saturday editorial endorsing Mandy Powers Norrell for the state Senate District 16 seat, we inaccurately stated that her opponent, Mick Mulvaney, had failed to file donations from donors, including voucher activist Howard Rich and his affiliates, prior to election day in 2006, when Mulvaney was running for state House District 45.
In fact, he did file a list of donations before election day. Election day was Nov. 7, 2006; Mulvaney filed the list of his donations on Nov. 6, 2006, the day before the election.
The deadline for filing donations was Oct. 23, 2006. Because Mulvaney filed his report late, he was fined $100 by the House Legislative Ethics Committee.
Mulvaney said he forgot to file the report and, upon realizing this, he sent a list of donors to reporters several days before the election. An article referencing Rich's contributions to Mulvaney was published in The Herald on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006.
