Tell readers about seat belts, too
I've been riding motorcycles for more than 30 years and almost never ride without putting on a helmet. I'm also a big believer in the "all fly gear all the time" motto. But I would like to point out what I consider to be a crusade by the media on helmet laws.
You recently had stories about two wrecks that involved the tragic death of the operators. One involved a motorcycle and the other a car. You were quick to point out the rider of the motorcycle wasn't wearing a helmet.
Yet the other story about the driver of the car didn't mention if the operator was wearing a seat belt.
Since seat-belt use is mandatory by state law, and wearing a helmet is not, don't you think we should know if the driver was wearing his belt?
Every time I read about someone in a motorcycle accident, you mention the wearing of helmets. How about equal time for seat belts and people who don't use them?
I don't ride without my helmet, but I do understand why some people would and do, and it's their right to do so until it becomes a law.
