Do the math on Bush's vetoes
Doris Cole recently wrote, "Bush does his best dirty deals with his veto pencil."
Bush has vetoed 12 bills, and four of those were overridden. Only Franklin Pierce and Andrew Johnson had a higher percentage overridden. That leaves eight vetoes total for Bush. Aside from Warren Harding's six vetoes and James Garfield's zero vetoes, you have to go back to Abraham Lincoln to find a president with fewer vetoes. Lincoln had seven. For sake of comparison, Franklin Roosevelt had 635 vetoes; Harry Truman, 250; Jimmy Carter, 31; Bill Clinton, 37. Carter had only 6 percent overridden. Clinton had only 5 percent overridden.
So, if Bush "does his best dirty deals with his veto pencil," he is really bad at making dirty deals.

Rewrite the regulatory rules
One cannot help but take note, in the tsunami of media reporting on the current financial crisis and the prospective bailout/rescue package, there is a vitally important element that is little touched upon: How did we get to this point?
Any relief plan will serve only as a temporary panacea unless the faulty practices that brought us here are corrected. First, the banking and mortgage regulations brought forth under the Community Reinvestment Act must be rewritten to prevent the granting of mortgages to so many unqualified borrowers.
Second, the trading practices of Wall Street must be monitored and regulated to a reasonable degree in order to ensure an environment that strikes a balance between short-term profit and long-term economic balance.
Excess greed is ruining nation
America, my once great country, is supposed to be the world's most powerful nation. America was once called a God-fearing, Christian nation, and now she is being destroyed by greed.
Greedy companies, never satisfied with enough profit, are always looking for ways to make another dollar. They move their plants out of the country for cheap labor and add to the unemployment lines, putting our own people out of work. Loyal men and women who gave their best for their employers must suffer so the owners, majority stockholders and top brass can continue their lavish lifestyles.
Inferior products from China and other countries flood the market as our country continues to decline. "Made in America" is on a downward trend as we continue to import more than we export.
American businesses continue to hire illegal workers, many from Mexico, for less than minimum wage and put hardworking Americans out of work. Neither John McCain nor Barack Obama is speaking out about the illegal workers.
America will pay a price for this, because within 25 years, we will be more like Mexico than America. We will destroy the middle class and create another sub-class of poor people.
American oil companies pocket record profits, price gouge us at the pump and sell plenty of oil overseas to fill their pocketbooks even more. I wonder how many politicians own stock in oil, especially President Bush.
Many American can't afford health insurance or are turned down by some greedy insurance company, but illegals can go to the county hospital and get treated and eventually pay for it by increasing the costs.
If illegals cross the border every day, how safe are our borders? Even Osama bin Laden may be somewhere in the U.S. working on a construction crew or picking vegetables somewhere.
This is an age-old problem and is spelled out in the Bible: "The love of money is the root of all evil." America, get down on your knees and turn back to God before it is too late.
