What's the point of tethering dogs?
I was at the council meeting concerning animal rights. I do animal rescue work, but I don't consider myself an "animal rights activist," just a responsible person with good morals and common sense. Many people in the meeting wanted an explanation as to why York County would want to restrict the tethering of animals.
My question to those individuals is why someone want to chain their animal 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I cannot understand the purpose of owning animals just to keep them confined. Do people really feel like they are doing these animals a favor by keeping them chained in their yard?
Maybe I'm ignorant because I just don't understand it. There are many people who feel very strongly that there should not be a restriction on the tethering of animals. So, I guess what I am asking is for one of these individuals who are so against the new tethering ordinance to please enlighten me as to the purpose of having a living lawn ornament.
