Interactive: York resident Cheryl Reinke’s epic 120-mile swim

An engineer, Cheryl Reinke spent the endless hours in the water counting strokes to herself. It helped distract her from the longevity of her undertaking, the 120-mile 8 Bridges Hudson River swim. She recently became just the fifth person to finish the race.
An engineer, Cheryl Reinke spent the endless hours in the water counting strokes to herself. It helped distract her from the longevity of her undertaking, the 120-mile 8 Bridges Hudson River swim. She recently became just the fifth person to finish the race.

York’s Cheryl Reinke was back in the water Sunday, swimming along with her open water group that meets weekly at Nevin’s Creek in Lake Wylie. Reinke slowly paddled at the back of the group of about 50 swimmers, her muscles still filled with ache. The leisurely 2-mile swim was nothing like the 120-mile, eight-day marathon she had just completed in New York’s Hudson River.

Read more about Reinke’s incredible accomplishment here, but for now, check out an interactive graphic of her journey down the Hudson below, or here for a full page version.
