MOBILE, Ala. -- The Winthrop women's tennis fell to No. 57 South Alabama 5-2 Monday.
The Lady Eagles fell to 1-6 on the year, while the Jaguars improved their record to 5-0 on the season.
South Alabama won all three doubles matches against to capture the doubles point and the early lead at 1-0.
Winthrop came back to tie the match when Lisa Wilkinson, playing No. 4 singles, won her second straight singles match of the season as Katie Welch had to retire during the first set with the score at 2-0. In the No. 5 match, Larisa Bekmetova also won her second straight as she held off Sylvanie Spangenberg 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
The Lady Eagles also played two close matches as Sara Abutovic and Yelena Fadina took their matches into third sets. Abutovic and Fadina would fall to Erica Krisan and Jelena Krivacevic, respectively.
Winthrop will be back in action again today as it travels to face Furman at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
