Liberty tabbed to win BSC

CHARLOTTE -- Winthrop's men were picked to finish fourth and the women fifth in the Big South Conference cross country preseason polls.

Liberty's men and women were picked to win both titles in a vote by the league's coaches and sports information directors.

Liberty's men, which features senior All-American and three-time Big South individual champion Josh McDougal, were a unanimous pick for the top spot, garnering 128 points and finishing ahead of second-place Coastal Carolina (111).

Liberty was picked to repeat on the women's side, receiving 13 first-place votes and 125 out of a possible 128 points. The Lady Flames, which posted five finishers in the top 10 of last year's meet, finished ahead of Coastal with 125 points.

The 2007 cross country season begins Aug. 31. The New Balance Men's and Women's Cross Country Conference Championship is slated for Oct. 27 at UNC Asheville.
