RADFORD, Va. -- Just one day after netting five goals in its season opener, the Winthrop men's soccer team couldn't find the net at all and dropped its first game of the season with a 1-0 loss to Binghamton in the RU Classic.
The Eagles offense was all over the Bearcats defense for most of the game. Winthrop (1-1) totaled 14 shots, but was unable to complete the final piece to the puzzle with a goal.
Binghamton (2-0) got on the board in the 17th minute as Matt Narode took a bouncing ball and blasted a shot into the top left corner just inside the 18-yard box from the left side.
"We certainly played well enough and hard enough to win," said coach Rich Posipanko. "Binghamton was the most direct team we've probably ever played. It was very difficult to break them down defensively. Still we made one mistake defensively and when you get 20 chances offensively you feel you should finish one of them. Give credit to Binghamton as their style was very difficult to play against and were well organized in the back."
