Lady Eagles wrap up tournament

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif., -- The Winthrop softball team lost to UC Davis 3-0 on Sunday in a game full of missed opportunities.

The loss drops the Eagles to 2-3 on the season as they wrapped up tournament action at the Cathedral City Kickoff.

Winthrop had seven hits in the game and left a total of eight runners on base. After the first inning, the Eagles trailed 3-0.

Lauren Levin finished with two hits on the day and is currently leading the team with a .500 batting average. Tessa Thomas finished 3-for-4 on the day.

Hancock picked up the win for the Aggies as she tossed a complete game shutout, allowing seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Late Saturday, Winthrop fell 3-2 to Colorado State.

Freshman Jo-Lynn Smith got things going as her first career home run put the Eagles up 1-0 on Colorado State in the second inning.

Megan Evans suffered her first loss of the season as she allowed two earned runs on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
