CHARLOTTE -- The Winthrop Eagles took advantage of a match shortened by rain and defeated Charlotte, 4-0, in men's tennis.
The win improves the Eagles' record to 2-3 on the season, while the loss dropped the 49ers to 4-7.
Winthrop took an early 1-0 lead on the 49ers as it clinched two of the three doubles matches to pick up the doubles point.
Alejandro Portugal and Rodrigo Santos defeated the duo of Jesse Hutchinson and Jeff Archer 8-6, while Vinicius Bortolatto and Arthur Takahashi defeated the duo Felix Bernhoerster and Mortiz Bernhoerster 8-1.

Three of the six singles matches were left unfinished due to the weather, but the three completed matches were all won by Winthrop.
In the No. 1 singles match, Santos defeated Felix Bernhoerster 6-1, 6-1. The win by Santos gave him five straight singles victories on the season.
Bortolatto, playing No. 2 singles for Winthrop, defeated Ricky Cuellar 6-1, 7-6 (3). Marcin Majchrzak won his first singles match as an Eagle as he defeated Mortiz Bernhoerster 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles match.
