S.C. State drops Eagles, 5-2

The Winthrop men's tennis team was defeated on senior day 5-2 by the South Carolina State Bulldogs on Monday at The Winthrop Memorial Courts.

The Eagles record dropped to 10-8, while the Bulldogs improved to 12-3 with the victory.

Winthrop fell behind early 1-0 as they were defeated in all three doubles matches by the Bulldogs.

Juniors Vinicius Bortolatto and Arthur Takahashi played Radek Pivonka and Gabriel Meana close in the No. 1 doubles match, but were defeated 9-7.

Winthrop will be back in action today as they travel to take on Big South Conference foe Coastal Carolina at 2 p.m.


The Winthrop softball game against Presbyterian scheduled for Wednesday at 3 p.m. has been postponed.

Due to the tragic death of Presbyterian football player Larry Thomas, Winthrop and Presbyterian will play at Terry Field in Rock Hill on Apr. 17 at 5 p.m.
