Gamecocks' Downey named to all-SEC preseason team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Tennessee has been picked to win a second straight Southeastern Conference men's basketball championship.

The predictions were the result of balloting from 30 SEC and national media members.

The Volunteers were heavy favorites over Florida and Kentucky. Alabama was picked to win the Western Division over LSU.

South Carolina, under first-year coach Darrin Horn, was picked to finish fifth in the SEC East.

Tennessee's Tyler Smith was the preseason player of the year. Gamecocks guard Devan Downey, a Chester native, join's Smith on the first team All-SEC team with Kentucky's Patrick Patterson, Florida's Nick Calathes and Vanderbilt's A.J. Ogilvy.
