Eagles set to start Split series

Fans hungry for an early taste of Winthrop baseball can check out three free intrasquad games beginning today at The Winthrop Ballpark.

The Eagles play Games 1-3 of their annual Banana Split series beginning today, with Games 4-6 set for next weekend. Today's game is set for 3:45 p.m. (seven innings), with a nine-inning tilt set for 2:15 p.m. Saturday and another seven-inning game at 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

Fans are advised to check winthropeagles.com in the case of inclement weather for news of postponements or re-scheduled times.

The premise is simple. The Eagles held their player draft this week and chose two rosters. After the series is completed, the losing team buys the winning team a round of banana splits at a team banquet just before final exams.

Admission is free and fans are encouraged to come out and watch a new-look Winthrop team in its completed ballpark.
