The Manchester Cup is back in action this weekend at Rock Hill’s Manchester Meadows soccer complex.
Winthrop will welcome nine men’s college soccer teams – Furman, Davidson, Georgia State, Gardner-Webb, UNC Wilmington, South Carolina, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern and UNC Greensboro – and one women’s team – Belmont Abbey College – to town for some offseason spring soccer.
The event originated in 2007 and has grown into one of the best out of season college soccer events in the southeast.
“Most spring games aren’t real competitive,” said Winthrop men’s soccer coach Rich Posipanko.

“They’re not played at a regular season-kind of pace. These games, that’s why they like them. Most of the teams, this will be their last event for the spring. The facility, the fans, it brings out the best in teams.”
It’s also a good showcase for the local high schools involved – Rock Hill, Northwestern, South Pointe, Fort Mill, Indian Land and Nation Ford.
Tickets are being sold on a daily basis, not by individual game.
“Ladies Night” tickets for Friday night’s action are $5 for everyone.
On Saturday a tournament pass can be purchased for $10, and tickets for children younger than 12 and students with an ID can be purchased for $5.
All tickets after 7:30 p.m. are $5.
A group of 10 or more can get into the event for $8 for an adult and $3 for children and students.
