Winthrop baseball practice begins Friday

The Winthrop baseball team is raring to start the 2015 season as players report for the first day of practice on Friday.

“We are excited to get team practice started,” said Eagles coach Tom Riginos.

“We have three and a half weeks to prepare for opening day against Kent State. The players have done an outstanding job preparing themselves for team practice.”

Riginos also announced that seniors Chad Smith, Brad Kaczka, John Menken and juniors Sam Kmiec and Mark Lowrie have been voted as the team captains for the 2015 season.

According to Riginos, “I think the team did an outstanding job of electing our 2015 team captains. I believe these five men will do an outstanding job leading our team.”

The Eagles kick off Riginos’ fifth year at the helm with a four-game series against Kent State on February 13 at 4 p.m. at Winthrop Ballpark.
