The Winthrop women’s lacrosse team will kick off the 2015 season Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. on the road against the Owls of Kennesaw State University.
Winthrop will be looking to earn a season-opening win for the second time in three years after the Eagles won their inaugural game over Howard in 2013 and dropped the season-opener at Ohio State last season.
The Eagles and Owls both started women’s lacrosse in 2013 and while Winthrop has found success, compiling a 17-19 record over two years, Kennesaw has struggled with a combined record of 2-22 through two seasons. Winthrop and Kennesaw met in 2013 at Eagle Field with Winthrop winning 22-8.
This year, Kennesaw has played two games, dropping both. The Owls fell 24-8 at Elon on Jan. 31 and dropped a 24-1 decision to Vanderbilt on Feb. 7.
Sydney Farwick has led the Owls offensively with four goals while her twin sister Samantha Farwick leads the team with two assists and has also tallied one goal. Elaine Bradley has picked up both losses for the Owls this season.
Following Tuesday’s contest, the Eagles will open their home schedule against Ohio State on Friday at 6 p.m. which starts a stretch of six straight home contests.
