Winthrop senior Andre Smith has been tabbed as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels men’s basketball co-player of the week, announced by the league Monday afternoon.
Smith, who is co-player of the week with Gardner-Webb’s Jerome Hill, is coming off a 21-point performance in the win over Liberty and helped the Eagles to a 2-0 week as he averaged 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals. He opened the week with 18 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists in the 22-point win over Charleston Southern at the Winthrop Coliseum on Feb. 2. He was 54 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three hitting 9-of-18 behind the arc.
In the win over Liberty, Smith became just the fifth player in school history to reach 200 three-pointers in his career when he tied his career-high of five in a single-game. Smith is now just 26 points away from becoming the school’s 21st player to score 1,000 points in a career.
