The Winthrop women’s lacrosse team will start a stretch of six-straight home contests Friday evening, hosting nationally-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes at 6 p.m. at Eagle Field.
The Eagles (1-0) earned an 18-5 victory over Kennesaw State on Tuesday afternoon. No. 12 Ohio State (2-0) has wins over Detroit and Binghamton.
Winthrop got solid contributions across the lineup Tuesday with eight different Eagles put goals in the net. Freshman Katie Clark led the way with five points on four goals and one assist. Junior Abigail Blevins also netted four goals while fellow junior Shannon Gallagher tallied two goals and two assists.
Freshman Katherine Judge set a single-game record, picking up seven ground balls, while the team set a record with 30 total ground balls. Freshman goalie Alaina Girani picked up her first collegiate victory, allowing five goals and making five saves.

Ohio State has out-scored its competition 37-9 through two games this season. Senior Katie Chase leads the Buckeyes with 10 goals this season while fellow senior Jackie Cifarelli has totaled 10 points on three goals and seven assists. Senior goalie Tori DeScenza has earned both results this season, allowing only two goals in 72 minutes of action.
Winthrop and Ohio State met last year in Columbus where the Buckeyes defeated the Eagles 17-8. Jenna Kasmarik scored four goals in her first game as an Eagle.
The Eagles return to the field on Friday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. against George Mason.
