YORK -- The York Cougars wrapped up their preseason drills in dramatic fashion Thursday with a 30-yard field goal with 11 seconds remaining to edge Great Falls 3-0 in the final matchup of the Jamboree.
With both teams engaged in a defensive struggle, York generated enough offensive momentum late in the contest to mount a 64-yard drive to the 11-yard line with 30 seconds remaining. With the clock ticking, York rushed the field goal unit on the field with the ball at the 20.
That's where Matt Guempel split the uprights out for the winning points.
The field goal preserved a night where the visiting teams were shut out. The running score going into tonight's second installment of the Jamboree has the home squads up 24-0.

"I just concentrated and kicked it," a relieved Guempel said. "Yes, it was plenty of pressure."
Other than the field goal, each team was unable to establish offensive consistency. Most of that was due to swarming and aggressive defenses, but a combined six turnovers didn't help.
